2010 Buick Lucerne Review

Overview

The 2010 Buick Lucerne is Buick's flagship four-door large luxury sedan that can seat up to six passengers and is available in four trims - CX, CXL, CXL Special Edition and Super. All trims except the V8 engine powered Super, feature a new 3.9-liter V6 engine instead of the old 3.8-liter engine. Also, Bluetooth connectivity, XM traffic reporting, and some new wheel designs have been added to the Lucerne exterior and interior. The Lucerne sports an elegant exterior with front and rear fascias, rocker panels and fog lamps previously available only on the Lucerne Super model for 2010. A different 18-inch chrome wheel design is on Lucerne Super.

Power and performance

A 3.9-liter V6 engine rated at 227 horsepower and 237 pound-feet of torque powers the CX and CXL trims. The Super is equipped with a 4.6-liter V8 engine that pumps out 292 hp and 288 lb-ft. of torque. Front-wheel drive and a four-speed automatic with enhanced electronic transmission are standard. A gas only, 219-hp, 3.9-liter V6 engine choice is available as an option in certain states of the U.S.

Body and styling

The 2010 Buick Lucerne comes in three basic trims. However, the CX and CXL are available in different versions. Fog lamps; chromed grille; outside mirrors; and body-side body-color moldings with bright inserts are some of the trim-specific standard features. Bright silver finish aluminum wheels; chrome and chrome-tech aluminum wheels of the same measurement; and 18-inch silver finish and premium chrome aluminum wheels are standard or optional based on the trim selected. Inside, AM/FM stereo with CD player; MP3 playback; DVD-based touch-screen navigation; auto tone control; speed-compensated volume; TheftLock; auxiliary audio input jack; and XM NavTraffic systems are optional. XM Radio; Bluetooth wireless technology for select compatible phones; and cruise control are some standard features on the 2010 Lucerne.

Safety Features

Air bags; four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with dynamic rear proportioning; LATCH; OnStar system with one-year Directions and Connections Plan with turn-by-turn navigation; theft-deterrent system; tire pressure monitoring system (excluding spare tire); and full-range, powertrain- and brake-modulated traction control are standard safety features on the 2010 Buick Lucerne. Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Alert, and StabiliTrac electronic stability control system with brake assist are some optional features available.
